Russian agents planned to detonate a bomb at a military facility in the Kiev area. According to the Ukrainian security service, a 16-year-old boy would carry out the attack, dressed as a Ukrainian soldier, to create division in society.
What the boy did not know, however, was that the plan also meant that he himself would die.
The Ukrainian security service has exposed yet another Russian agent network. According to a statement from SBU the Russian agents planned to carry out an assassination attempt against Ukrainian military personnel in the Kiev area.
Four people are said to have planned to carry out an explosion at the entrance to a military building.
Dress up as a Ukrainian soldier
The operation is described as a “bloody terrorist act” by the SBU and the person who would carry out the act was a 16-year-old boy.
The Ukrainian prosecutor’s office states that the boy checked into a nearby hotel before committing the crime. There he waited for further instructions before the act.
Dressed in a Ukrainian military uniform, he would make his way to the building with a backpack, in which would be a home-made explosive device. The boy believed the explosive device was planned to detonate after he left the building.
SBU: The boy didn’t know he was going to die in the explosion
But according to the SBU, his cronies had other plans. The other agents allegedly planned to detonate the remote-controlled bomb when he entered the construction.
“The agent, who was to be sacrificed, did not know that he was destined to die in the explosion. He thought that the explosive charge would detonate only after he left the building,” the SBU writes in the statement.
According to the SBU and the prosecutor’s office, the boy placed the bag with the bomb, but the deed was prevented in time.
“Thanks to coordinated actions by law enforcement authorities, the crime, which was to take place in a public place, could be averted in time,” writes the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office.
Wanted to create a crack in Ukrainian society
The operation is said to have aimed to try to destabilize the political situation by appearing as a protest. A Ukrainian “soldier” would have attacked other soldiers, hoping to create a rift in Ukrainian society.
In addition to the boy, a 19-year-old man and two women from the Vinnytsia region of Ukraine have been arrested. The man is suspected of having transported the bomb and the uniform to the boy.
The women are suspected of having manufactured the bomb according to video instructions from the Russian intelligence service. During the house search, among other things, 1.5 kg of explosives were found.
Recently exposed agents chasing fighter jets
The Ukrainian security service recently cracked another agent network in Ukraine. They had specialized in hunting fighter jets of the F-16 model. A total of twelve suspected Russian agents were arrested, some of them Ukrainian deserters recruited by the Russian military intelligence service, the GRU.
In addition to fighter jets, they also allegedly tried to map Ukrainian air defense positions and companies that produce various products to disrupt Russian drones.
