Lithuania may face serious consequences due to the ban on the transport of goods subject to EU sanctions through the country via transit railways to Kaliningrad, Russia.
– There is no doubt that Russia will respond to these hostile actions, says Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, at a security meeting in Kaliningrad, which does not share the border with the rest of Russia.
He adds that “appropriate measures” are underway.
– They will have a serious negative effect on the population of Lithuania, he says according to the Russian news agency Interfax.
On Tuesday, Russia’s foreign ministry has summoned the EU ambassador to Moscow, Markus Ederer, due to the restrictions, reports the news agency AFP.
After the meeting, Ederer called on the Russian side to resolve the issue diplomatically, according to the state-controlled Russian news agency Tass.
