Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree facilitating the acquisition of Russian citizenship for residents of Ukraine’s Kherson and Zaporozhye regions on May 25. According to this decree, the right of Russian citizenship was granted to those living in the occupied cities, and Russian passports began to be distributed in the occupied cities of Ukraine during the Russia Day celebrations celebrated yesterday.
MORE THAN 70 THOUSAND APPLICATIONS
While their passports were handed over to their owners in the ceremonies held today in the city of Melitopol in the Zaporozhye Region, Vladimir Rogov, the military administration leader of the Zaporozhian Region appointed by Russia, said, “As of June 6, more than 70 thousand people have applied for Russian citizenship in this region.”
Vladimir Saldo, the head of the military administration of the Kherson Region, appointed by Russia, stated that there is an intense demand for Russian citizenship by the public and that 23 Kherson region residents have been granted Russian citizenship so far, “All residents living in Kherson want to obtain their citizenship as soon as possible.”
