After his controversial comments on the possible sending of Western soldiers to Ukraine, Emmanuel Macron tries to explain French strategy, during an interview on “20H” on TF1 and France 2, this Thursday March 14. The head of state “takes responsibility” for his declarations and judges that “Russia cannot and must not win this war”.

According to the President of the Republic, the war in Ukraine is “existential for our Europe and for France”.

The National Assembly and the Senate largely approved this week the bilateral security agreement signed with kyiv, but the debates in Parliament revealed divisions far from this apparent consensus on support for Ukraine.

Emmanuel Macron is going to Berlin this Friday to try to ease tensions, fueled in particular by these declarations, with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, on the occasion of a three-way summit devoted to Ukraine, also including the Prime Minister Polish Donald Tusk.
