Russia says it has taken over the Kherson region
Russia’s defense ministry says its troops have taken over the Kherson region in southern Ukraine. The ministry told the Russian state media Interfax.
Ukrainian authorities said earlier that the Russian army has changed the leadership of the Kherson regional administration and city council.
According to Ukraine, Russia is planning a referendum staged in the city to justify the occupation.
In 2014, Russia held an illegal referendum in Crimea to join Russia after deploying troops in the region.
Kherson is located in the north of Crimea, which was occupied by Russia in 2014. As early as 2014, it was speculated that Russia would try to establish a land connection between Russia and Crimea through Kherson.
Britain is expected to appeal that war machines be sent to Ukraine
British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Trussin is expected to appeal in his speech today that Ukraine’s allies are sending heavier weapons and equipment to the country to ravage the country. The news agency AFP writes about the matter, which has seen an advance version of Truss’ speech.
Truss suggests that tanks and military aircraft should be sent to Ukraine.
Ukraine has repeatedly asked the West for fighter jets, especially Soviet-era fighters, which are already familiar to Ukrainian pilots.
Many Western allies have been reluctant to do so because they have not wanted to provoke Russia any more.
Zelenskyi: Russia is trying to destabilize the security situation in the Transnistrian region
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi says it believes Russia is trying to destabilize the Transnistrian separatist zone in Moldova.
Speaking to reporters in Kiev, the president estimates that Russia intends to threaten Moldova.
– They show that if Moldova supports Ukraine, they will [venäläiset] take certain countermeasures, Zelenskyi said.
There were attacks and explosions in Transnistria from the beginning of the week. The separatist leadership in the region claimed that the Ukrainians who had infiltrated Transnistria were behind the attacks. According to Ukrainian military intelligence, Russia would have staged the attacks.
Almost a third of Transnistria’s population is Russian-speaking.
