The Russian court that fined Google is demanding the media giant 20 quintillion dollars, 20 followed by 33 zeros.
The information about the record lawsuit comes from the Russian media channel RBC, which reported that the decision is based on Google stopping 17 Russian media channels.
It started already in 2020, but after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Google’s local subsidiary was put into bankruptcy and the company withdrew its commercial services in Russia, writes BBC.
Did not restrict materials about Ukraine
In July 2022, Russia fined Google 21.1 billion rubles (£301 million) for the media giant’s failure to restrict access to “forbidden” material about the war in Ukraine.
According to RBC, the sum has increased by a record amount from the Russian side as the amount of the fine has doubled every week since 2020.
Google is today valued at two million dollars, writes the BBC. The 20 quintillion dollar fine is greater than the world’s total GDP, which the International Monetary Fund estimates at 110 trillion dollars.
