Russia has accelerated its efforts to develop a domestically produced game console. This console with the Elbrus processor aims to reduce dependence on the West.
Russia aims to follow an independent path in the gaming industry. game console is preparing to implement its projects. These projects, supported by the Russian government, include both a stationary console and a portable gaming device. The basis of the consoles will be the domestic Elbrus processor, and the operating system they will run will be developed in Russia. However, these consoles, which are stated to be unable to compete with PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X in terms of hardware power, aim to attract attention with an innovative feature.
Game Console is Developed with Elbrus Processor
Skolkovo Foundation, which manages Russia’s technology investments, is responsible for the development of the new game console. It is stated that the console will work with the Russian-made Elbrus processor and can use Aurora OS or ALT Linux as the operating system. However, a definitive decision has not yet been made as to which software will be preferred.
The performance of Elbrus processors is low compared to the current generation game consoles. In a test last year, it was seen that the Elbrus-8SV processor could barely reach 30 FPS even in older games. For this reason, the console is planned to stand out with another “groundbreaking” feature rather than its hardware power. No details have been given yet about this feature.
Russian telecommunications giant MTS is working on a lower-cost cloud gaming console. This device is designed to provide access to the cloud gaming platform called MTS Fog Play and is expected to launch for under $50. Although the hardware features of the device have not been announced yet, it targets a wide range of users with its affordable price.
