Russia held elections on occupied territory

From the Russian side, there have been reports of sabotage against the election process, and according to the Ukrainian Kyiv Post, a polling station has been blown up with the help of drones.

Drone images, which SVT geolocated to a village in the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhya region, show a government building being attacked by a Ukrainian drone. The building was used by the occupying power as a storage room for ballot papers, writes the Unian news agency with reference to the Ukrainian security service.

According to a Russian representative, a polling station in the Zaporizhzhya region was completely destroyed in a Ukrainian drone attack. No one was in the building, according to the representative. It is unclear if this is the same incident.

Claimed win for Putin’s party

Later on Sunday evening, the Russian election authority announced that Putin’s United Russia party won the elections in all Ukrainian regions, reports AFP.

According to Ukraine, the election is an illegal attempt by Moscow to gain additional power over the occupied regions.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba states in a statement on the ministry’s website that the elections will not bring about any legal changes in the regions.

– Russia’s fake elections are invalid, he says and emphasizes that everyone involved in the vote will be held accountable.
