The conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues. Meanwhile, the world’s eyes and ears are on the news coming from the Middle East. Israel is threatening all its neighboring countries. After the assassination of Hamas leader Haniyeh, Iran vowed revenge. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated that “there are two minutes left until the apocalypse clock”, symbolizing the level of tension in the world due to the nuclear threat.
“THE NEXT HAS COME TO THE END OF THE DOOMSDAY CLOCK”
Ryabkov assessed the conflicts in the world in an interview for the program broadcast on the Rossiya-1 state television channel. Drawing attention to the fact that the needle on the “Doomsday Clock” is approaching the end, Ryabkov said, “I can say that this clock is now showing something close to two minutes, but this does not mean that the clock is running out of time and the Doomsday Clock war will begin.”
“SCENARIOS MAY BE VERY DIFFERENT”
Ryabkov stressed that all these developments must be approached responsibly, saying, “The army needs to keep its powder dry because the scenarios can be very different.” Ryabkov also emphasized that Russia will not make unilateral concessions to the West in order to resolve the conflict around Ukraine.
AFTER NUCLEAR WEAPONS BEGAN TO BE USED
The phrase “doomsday clock” first appeared on the cover of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists in 1947 to demonstrate the urgency of controlling nuclear weapons.
Ryabkov’s full interview will be broadcast on the Russian state channel Rossiya-1 in the program “Vesti Nedeli” after the evening news.
