– Our assault units have today completely liberated the settlement of Marinka, says Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in a conversation with President Vladimir Putin in a meeting broadcast on state Russian television.
According to Putin, the control of Marinka means that it will be more difficult for Ukraine to reach the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk with artillery.
According to Le Monde, 12,000 inhabitants lived in the city before the war, but most have long since fled. Drone images from February showed that no building in the city was undamaged.
Marinka is one of the areas where Russia has been pushing recently.
