Russia fired three missiles on Saturday that destroyed a fuel depot in the Novomoskovsk region of eastern Ukraine.
At least 11 people were injured in the attack, according to local authorities.
The fire brigade extinguished the fire caused by the missile strike on Sunday. Authorities said a new explosion at the fuel depot took place on Sunday morning, killing one person and injuring two.
Novomoskovsk is located northeast of the city of Dnipro.
‘s foreign journalist Antti Kuronen visited the outskirts of the scene on Saturday night. According to him, the place is located more than 200 kilometers from the front.
Kuronen was in the city of Dnipro at the time of the attack. The fuel depot, which was the subject of the missiles, was located about 40 km from the Dnipro.
Kuronen says he heard the sound of explosions in his hotel. After that, a huge statue of smoke appeared in the sky.
– We saw the explosion was big. We drove closer to see the destination, Kuronen says.
According to Kuronen, the fuel situation in eastern Ukraine has changed during the war. He says, for example, a month ago there was a shortage of fuel.
– That’s when the army will have access to fuel. It complicates the situation of ordinary people. Now, for example, petrol has gotten better, but it is really expensive.
According to Kuronen, the Ukrainian authorities have not said how much fuel was in the destroyed warehouse.
Kuronen says that on Sunday afternoon, smoke still rose from the warehouse area. According to him, this suggests that there would have been a lot of fuel in stock.
– Let’s see if this affects the fuel supply again.
According to Kuronen, all fuel must be brought into the region along the country because Russia has besieged sea routes.
