Russia closes airspace with Bulgarian Polish and Czech aircraft

The decision will take effect on Saturday afternoon local time. According to the BBC, Russia has previously banned the use of its airspace by all British airlines.

Russia is closing its airspace to aircraft from Bulgaria, Poland and the Czech Republic, says the country’s air traffic agency Rosaviation. The decision will take effect on Saturday afternoon local time. The ban applies to airlines in those countries or to airlines registered in those countries.

According to the BBC, Russia has previously banned the use of its airspace by all British airlines. The ban was announced after Britain banned the Russian national airline Aeroflot from landing in Britain.

Estonia, for its part, today decided to ban the use of its airspace by all Russian aircraft. Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, who spoke on Twitter, also called on all EU countries to do the same.

Finnair tells that the airspace closure will not affect the company’s operations at the moment.
