Russia has been targeting eastern Ukrainian villages for months.
On Sunday, Moscow’s defense minister said its forces have now taken control of one of them: Mykhailivka.
The village bordering the city of Selydove and the important logistics hub of Pokrovsk. Selydove has been badly damaged by months of shelling and seen most of its population flee.
Important mining town
Russia has previously tried to capture Pokrovsk – a mining town that was home to nearly 60,000 people before Moscow launched its offensive.
The Ukrainian military said in its daily report that its troops repelled 36 Russian attacks in the Pokrovsk area, including near Mykhailivka.
