Faced with the inflation of food products, the association Familles Rurales is asking the government to create a monthly allowance of 65 euros to help the poorest households to eat healthily. In its observatory of annual prices published on February 22, the association assesses average food inflation at more than 12% last year, a price increase which is limited to 8.3% for “healthy” products.
For a few months now, Elisabeth hasn’t visited the confectionery department at all. Now, when she wants to please her grandchildren, it’s with a cake. ” It’s homemade. It costs less “, she justifies herself. With her small retirement, the septuagenarian admits to eating differently and above all a little less than before: “ Always the same thing: a few yogurts, a little meat, a little fish. We try to have a few vegetables as often at the market as we can. ».
Aurélie also compares prices between major brands and markets. And in any case, the young mother said goodbye to industrial pizzas and other ready meals. ” We try less and less to take processed things and more and more to take fresh products. Small pleasures, it will be a cake or a pastry bought in a frozen store. But indeed, that too, it has increased “, she notes.
11% increase for fruits and vegetables
Just like the price of fruit and vegetables which has taken nearly 11% in one year, according to the association Families Rurales. And that, Aurélie observes directly in her shopping cart. ” We have an organic cucumber, we have some celery, we have fish. Before, we bought some every week, now we will take one from time to time, and above all, we waste less “, she explains.
With 65 euros more every month, his family could eat a little more meat, or better quality products. But even if the proposal is adopted, Aurélie fears not being able to benefit from it. Indeed, the Rural Families association recommends this allowance only for the most modest households, in other words, whose income is at the level of the poverty line.
