Commuters waiting for the train at a station in a suburb of Sydney, Australia were in for a surprise when a runaway racehorse suddenly appeared.

Surveillance footage from the station shows how the animal, dressed for the evening in a beige horse blanket, strolls back and forth on the platform. At one point, it seemingly starts chasing a man.

Once the train arrived, it had to go by with the doors closed to avoid bringing a four-legged solo passenger weighing several hundred kilos with it. After about fifteen minutes, the horse, which had escaped from a nearby stable, could be caught by its attendant.

Sydney Trains manager Matt Longland describes the incident the other day as “a bit unusual”.

Jo Haylen, Minister of Transport for the state of New South Wales, is on the same track.

– It’s not every day you see a horse on the platform, she says.
