The current strictly protected status means that wolves may not be killed, captured, kept or disturbed. Also, their breeding areas should not be damaged or destroyed. The new status allows the wild animal population to be ‘regulated’. The wolf may not disappear, but the rules for shooting the wolf are being relaxed.
