Rui Pinto escapes prison and it is to the Pope that he owes it. He was expected to be sent behind bars because he admitted to the charges against him.

But the hacker, who was not 30 years old at the time of these events, benefits from the amnesty granted on the occasion of Pope Francis’ visit to Lisbon for World Youth Day in August.

The group of judges considered that no one is above the law, but did not accept nine charges which could send the hacker to prison.

Rui Pinto was accused of data breach and correspondence violation, as well as attempted extortion. The lawyer for the hacker – now 34 years old – said he was reasonably satisfied.

Satisfaction also for the Portuguese Football Federation and the Doyen company, involved in the revelations of the pirate’s “Football Leaks”.

Rui Pinto, who brought down Isabelle dos Santos, the billionaire daughter of the former president of Angola, has implicated many people with his revelations.

Trials could take place in Spain, France, Qatar. Rui Pinto, seen alternately as a hero or as a bandit, has undoubtedly not finished with justice.
