As others danced around the midsummer pole, 200 couples got married in the city hall in Stockholm on Friday.
And it was a special day they chose because the City Hall was inaugurated a hundred years ago – today.
The Crown Princess couple was on hand to inaugurate a new work of love art with pomp and circumstance.
Today the City Hall in Stockholm celebrated 100 years. It took twelve years to complete the stately building that has become a symbol of Sweden. In honor of the day, a new work of art was inaugurated at Stockholm City Hall. “Love couple on the rock” was inaugurated by the Crown Princess couple who were there to celebrate love.
The sculpture was appropriately placed outside the entrance where thousands of newlyweds come out every year. In connection with the 100th anniversary, the municipality invited to a mass wedding in the town hall.
Newly married Sandra: “Awesome”
A total of 200 couples became husband and wife on Friday.
– It’s a big deal with the city hall celebrating 100 years, and the fact that the Crown Prince couple was there also feels cool just that, says newlywed Sandra Bäckman to TV4 Nyheterna.
– And we are married now too.
The town hall is known for more than just civil weddings.
– You know that it is here that the Nobel Banquet is held every year. The second is that it is an iconic building for Stockholm, like the Eiffel Tower in Paris and London Bridge. This is a place for national collection, says Mats Hayen, historian at the Stockholm City Archives.
