The skipper (Maxi Edmond de Rothshcild) crossed the finish line this Wednesday morning and won the 12th edition of the Route du Rhum and broke the record for the crossing between Saint Malo and Pointe à Pitre in 6 days, 19 hours and 47 minutes and 25 seconds. A real childhood dream for the skipper, as he explained at the time to the Figaro. “Some sailors dream of the Vendée Globe, I of the Route du rhum on a multihull. Today, after twenty-five years as a professional, I am rather at the end of my career. “to not be the Vendée Globe. The Route du rhum, on the other hand, was a real frustration. After crossing the finish line, the Frenchman expressed his emotion to the organizers of the Route du Rhum. “I’m not even tired surprisingly. I wanted to win this race so badly, for so many reasons…I’ve been dreaming about it since I was a kid and never got to do it. Three years ago , I was offered that day. There are so many people to thank. I found this boat crazy… It’s really a job with the whole team. There is this work with Franck Cammas and without him I would not have had this mastery of this boat. He gave me the place for the Rum, I thank him. He could have won it in my place on this boat. It’s really the whole team It’s a complicated boat, which needs to be upgraded and faced with new boats, we had to stay ahead. It’s a Formula 1 team and I’m the driver for the rest of the year, a lot of people are working on it. It’s perfect.”

In total, six categories of monohulls and multihulls crossed the Atlantic with:
- ULTIM 32/23: the premier category of maxi-multihulls over 100 feet (32 meters long) with no size limit – 8 entered
- OCEAN FIFTY: 50-foot multihulls (15 meters long) which all belong to the same class – 8 engaged
- IMOCA: the 60-foot Vendée Globe monohulls (18.28 meters long), some of which, the most efficient, are equipped with foils – 37 entered
- CLASS40: 12.18 meter long monohulls which all belong to the same class – 55 entered
- RUM MULTI: multihulls ≤ 64 feet (19.50 meters) that cannot fit into a class defined above – 16 entered
- MONO RUM: monohulls ≥ 39 feet (11.88 meters) overall and not eligible for a class defined above – 14 entered
