Construction is underway on the roundabout at Queen’s Line and Merlin Road.

The $6.6-million overhaul consists of two projects: a single-lane roundabout and rehabilitation of the Queen’s Line bridge to the west over Government Drain No. 1, a Chatham-Kent release said.
Construction is being completed in two phases, starting with work this year to realign Merlin Road north and south of Queen’s Line, followed next spring by realignment of Queen’s Line, building of the roundabout and complete rehabilitation of the bridge.
Merlin Road is closed from Gleeson Line to McDougall Line for realignment.
Speed limits have been reduced on Queen’s Line through this area as part of the construction work and will remain once the new roundabout is built.
Motorists are encouraged to follow posted signs and drive slowly through the construction area.

The roundabout was recommended by studies assessing safety improvements for the intersection. Huron Construction is performing the work.
Rehabilitating the bridge at the same time ensures cost efficiencies and co-ordination between the two projects, officials added.
The work is being done ahead of the Ontario Transportation Ministry’s Highway 401 Bloomfield Road interchange project.
Motorists are advised to follow construction detour signage at all times because road closing dates may change as work progresses.
“Access to all properties will be maintained throughout the project,” officials said in a release. “The contractor will take every precaution to minimize interruptions, but there may be some inconvenience during work. . . Chatham-Kent thanks motorists for their patience during this important infrastructure work.”
