According to a statement from the organization, Carter died on Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia. He died peacefully in the presence of his family, the release says.

– Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I achieved. I received wise guidance and encouragement from him whenever I needed it. As long as he was in the world I knew there would always be someone who loved and supported me, Jimmy Carter said in a statement.
