At a press conference in August, the government claimed that the increase in the reduction obligation means that Sweden is expected to reach its climate goals in the EU, this with reference to a “main scenario”. However, SVT’s review was able to show that there were more scenarios than what the government presented and that in another scenario Sweden is far from meeting the climate goal.
Both Elisabeth Svantesson (M) and Romina Pourmokhtari (L) also called the more optimistic scenario where Sweden meets the climate goals the “main scenario” in interviews with SVT. But according to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency there is no “main scenario”.
– We don’t call it a “main scenario”. Both are equally likely, said Sara Almqvist at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
Romina Pourmokhtari, however, said she only had a “main scenario” presented to her.
Now the Social Democrats, the Green Party and the Left Party are notifying the climate minister.
SVT is looking for Romina Pourmokhtari for a comment.
