Certain behaviors can turn a potential romantic relationship into a nightmare. Which ones? Here are seven in particular that you should avoid, the objective being to find a healthy person with whom to build a sincere union.
When meeting someone, it is important to keep a cool head in order to spot indelicate, even toxic, behavior from this potential partner. Here are seven you need to know.
Disappearance or ghosting
Ghosting is what you might call disappearing from one day to the next. Very common, it consists of cutting all ties with a person you have just met. Without any explanation. According to an Ipsos study, 3 out of 4 French people have already had this experience… of dubious taste.
Digital enchantment
This practice is defined by a subtle appearance of the person you meet, via your social networks. She likes your posts or watches your stories, but never gets in touch again. Like a shadow, she remains lurking in the background, in a virtual world. A way of being present, while being out of reach.
The unexpected resurrection
This attitude characterizes the people who reappear in your life, when you thought you had moved on and buried this relationship. This can be after months or even years of silence, as if nothing had happened. A behavior that is more than confusing… and often brings trouble. We will have warned you.
Dropping crumbs
This practice bears this name in reference to the little crumbs that we can leave behind, to maintain the interest of the other and the hope, without this leading to a real relationship. Also called breadcrumbing, this approach will leave you waiting endlessly, without any real promise. A dead end, in short.
The sidelines
Some people are experts at keeping the other person under control, almost like a joker. This practice has a name: benching, or putting on the sidelines (or the bench). The person makes you feel important but never gives you any real attention. A way to immerse yourself in total uncertainty.
Mental manipulation
Mental manipulation, or gaslighting, involves pushing a person to doubt their own perceptions and reality. To the point of no longer knowing what is real, what emanates from your mind. A dangerous influence that can seriously affect your psychological well-being. Run away if you notice that your new conquest is trying to manipulate you, before it is too late.
Emotional vampires
These people live up to their name, they feed off the energy of others, without giving anything in return. After spending time with them, we feel exhausted, drained of all vitality. Learning to recognize these behaviors is crucial to protecting yourself from toxic and unpleasant situations.
