Car brand Rolls Royce in the UK has announced that it will make a one-time payment of £2,000 to more than 14,000 employees due to the rising cost of living.

PAYMENT WILL BE MADE TO NON-SENDER EXECUTIVES TOGETHER WITH WORKERS

The carmaker announced that the payment will be made to non-senior executives along with workers at its Derby and Bristol factories.

Initially, 3,000 employees will receive this payment in their August salary. The remaining 11 thousand unionized workers will be paid if their union accepts the amount.

Speaking to the BBC, a Rolls Royce official stated that 70 percent of its employees will benefit from the payment, while the company also realized the highest salary hikes in recent years.

Stating that negotiations are continuing with the unions for salary arrangements for 2022-23, the official stated that increasing living costs will also be an important factor in these negotiations.

The company official also added that 11,000 unionized workers will be offered a 4 percent increase in salaries until March.

INFLATION RATE IS AT THE HIGHEST OF THE LAST 40 YEARS

The inflation rate in the UK has reached the highest level in the last 40 years. There are price increases in many product items, especially natural gas and electricity bills.

According to official data, for the first time since the day the records were kept, the number of unemployed is less than the number of vacant jobs. For this reason, businesses are resorting to wage increases and some various measures in order to retain their workers and fill the gaps.

Lloyds Bank, one of the banks operating in the country, offered its employees a lump-sum payment of £1000 against the rising costs.

Supermarket chain Morrisons also announced that it has increased the wages of 80,000 employees. Similar situations apply to other supermarkets Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda.

According to the latest data released in the UK, inflation is around 9 percent. An increase is expected this year as well.
