A key figure in aviation Rolls Royce, today announced its hybrid-electric flight technology.
making a statement on the subject Rolls Royce, A new technology designed for hybrid-electric applications. stated that it has developed turbo generator technology. It is said that this system, which contains a small engine, will also have a scalable power supply. This new system, which will allow longer range as a result of hydrogen combustion from sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), will be included in Rolls-Royce Electrical’s propulsion portfolio. Other information from the company on the subject is as follows:
“The current battery technology and all-electric propulsion system will enable short flights within the city, between cities and between islands, with the help of eVTOL and fixed-wing short-haul aircraft. With the turbo generator technology developed by Rolls-Royce, with a power range of 500 kW to 1200 kW, longer routes can be created with electric battery powered aircraft.
Rolls-Royce engineers in Germany, Norway and Hungary are working on the design of the turbo generator and system integration, focusing on achieving intelligent power distribution during flight.
The turbo generator allows the aircraft to switch between power sources during flight, either by charging the batteries after takeoff or directly powering the propellers. Some of the research and development of this technology is financed by the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action.”
Commenting on the subject Rob Watson, President of Rolls-Royce Electrical He directly said: “Rolls-Royce will be the leading provider of all-electric and hybrid-electric power and propulsion systems for Advanced Air Mobility, and will expand this technology to larger platforms over time.
I would like to thank the German government for their support in this matter. As part of our strategy, we aim to offer our customers a completely sustainable solution. This means longer electric flights can be made with our turbo generator technology.

Thus, while hybrid-electric flights are being developed, there will be more travel opportunities on low passenger capacity or net zero carbon emission aircraft. At Rolls-Royce we are also expanding our existing network to provide maintenance services for electrical systems.
In addition, Rolls-Royce Power Systems continues to offer mtu microgrid solutions to support the rapid charging of electric aircraft and provide reliable, cost-effective, climate-friendly and sustainable power to vertiports.”
The company is making great strides in electric aircraft. for example Rolls-Royce Spirit of Innovation, It was officially registered by the World Air Sports Federation (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale – FAI) as the world’s fastest all-electric aircraft in the past period. The aircraft, which broke two new world records in its field, first reached a top speed of 555.9 km/h in 3 kilometers, successfully breaking the previous record of 213.04 km/h.
In another test flight, he achieved a speed of 532.1 km/h, flying 292.8 km/h faster than the previous record in 15 kilometers. The “Spirit of Innovation” aircraft, a product of the ACCEL (Accelerating the Electrification of Flight) project supported by the UK government, was also launched during the record attempts. Reaching a maximum speed of 623 km/h (387.4mph), it became the world’s fastest electric vehicle.
