On Sunday morning, shortly after 7 am, emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle collision at McNaughton Line East and Caledonia Road in Chatham Township.
A 2002 Ford Sport Trek was traveling eastbound on McNaughton occupied by a 19-year-old male driver and a 19-year-old female passenger.
Chatham-Kent police said the vehicle left the roadway, rolled several times, and ejected both occupants. As the vehicle came to a resting position it ignited, police added.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics. The passenger was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and subsequently air-lifted to a London hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Drug charge trafficking ugly
Police conducted a traffic stop on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg on Sunday evening.
The driver allegedly had a suspended driver’s license and an open can of an alcoholic beverage in the driver’s door.
Upon further investigation, a significant quantity of suspected methamphetamine was also found in the console, police added.
The 37-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
He was transported to headquarters and later released with conditions and a short date.
Impaired driving charge
On Sunday night, emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash on Baldoon Road in Dover Township.
Police learned a 2010 Dodge Journey was traveling on Baldoon Road when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a hydro pole.
Police believed the man was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested. He was taken to headquarters for further breath testing.
The 49-year-old driver and lone occupant, of Dover Centre, was charged with having a blood-alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He was released with conditions and a short date.
