Killers of the Flower Moon has been showing in German cinemas since this weekend. Hollywood’s nobility comes to the fore in the elaborate true crime drama. Master director Martin Scorsese directed two of the most prominent stars: The 80-year-old worked several times with both Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, and he maintains an intensive artistic relationship with both of them.

The trio De Niro, Scorsese and DiCaprio worked together for the first time in Killers of the Flower Moon. De Niro plays William King Hale, a ruthless rancher who infiltrates his nephew Ernest (DiCaprio) into the Osage indigenous people. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the director compared the two acting heavyweights and theirs different style.

Every now and then we saw Bob [Robert De Niro] and I look at and rolled their eyes a little. And we said [Leonardo DiCaprio]: ‘You don’t need this dialogue.’
That sounds like an interesting, if somewhat unexpected, dynamic on set. Nevertheless, the Hollywood legends naturally appreciate each other: after all, it was Robert DeNiro who recommended Scorsese to work with Leonardo DiCaprio.
