What kind of game is this? The role-playing game “Expeditions: Rome” on Steam is the third part of a series of historical tactical role-playing games from a Danish developer. It was released in January 2022.

Basically, it’s a “serious” role-playing game reminiscent of a stripped-down Dungeons & Dragons, with a focus on tactical combat like X-COM:

  • You control a group of heroes who go on adventures and, above all, do a lot of fighting.
  • Relatively soon you will have around 14 heroes to choose from, from which you repeatedly select 6 and use them to defeat your opponents
  • The fights are more tactically realistic than in “Wartales” and do not require magic or magical super weapons à la Baldur’s Gate 3
