Rögle’s brazen recruitment coup – trying to snare the star Swede right in front of the SHL rival’s nose: “Crazy levels financially”

The star has been rumored to Färjestad all summer.
But now comes information about a potential coup.
Rögle is trying to hijack the signing – and the sums are said to be at “crazy levels”.

Färjestad was singled out as one of the favorites to win gold last season. But the season ended already in the quarter-finals when Rögle, who finished far behind in the SHL table, swept the Karlstad team with a whopping 4-0 in matches. Rögle then went all the way to the final, but for Färjestad, many are now hoping for a longer season next year.

Rumored to return home

And an important piece of the puzzle in that is spelled Oskar Steen. The 26-year-old scored a whopping 37 points in 46 games the last time he played with the team in the SHL, during the 2018-19 season, and has been singled out as Färjestad’s big dream signing for several years. His clear goal has been to stay in North America, but he is still without a contract, and time is running out before the season starts.

Färjestad has been clear about its goal to bring home Steen, who played 34 games for the Boston Bruins in the NHL last season, and there is said to be an offer that would make Steen the team’s highest paid player. But now comes competition from several SHL teams, and not least Rögle. It is Expressen’s initiated hockey journalist Johan Svensson who writes about the SHL rival’s possible recruitment coup.

“Crazy levels financially”

According to Svensson, the interest from Rögle must be concrete, but it still seems that it is not enough to carry out what would be a real coup right in front of Färjestad’s eyes.

“Rögle is in and bidding. Now we are up to crazy levels financially. But everyone I talk to says that it will be Färjestad anyway. Walle will stretch what is required. The only obstacle is still an NHL bid. Which looks distant”, writes Svensson on X.

But it shouldn’t just be Rögle and Färjestad who are interested. According to VF journalist Johan Ekberg, there are a handful of interested clubs only from Sweden.

“More clubs than Rögle are involved and bidding, according to what I hear. Will be up against five SHL teams with serious interest,” he writes.

Oskar Steen, in addition to the games in the NHL, also scored 16 points in 25 games in the AHL last season.
