Frölunda’s coach Roger Rönnberg does not mince his words after the 1-4 loss against Örebro.
He thinks most things were wrong with the team’s effort.
– I don’t know if I’ve seen us this wet and cautious in the melee game in a very, very long time. So we really deserve to lose, he tells GP.
After two wins and two losses, Frölunda went on a real starburst on Tuesday. 1-4 away against Örebro was not what Roger Rönnberg and his players had counted on. Losing is one thing, but doing it the way the Gothenburgers did made the coach lose it.
“Wet and careful”
After the final whistle, Rönnberg criticized his players openly in the local Göteborgs-Posten. It was wrong with their attitude, values and their melee game. Not just in this particular game, but really throughout the start of the season. If you ignore the opener against Leksand (5-1), the game has wavered in all of Frölunda’s matches so far.
– I don’t know if I’ve seen us this wet and cautious in the melee game in a very, very long time. So we really deserve to lose. I don’t think we have had the “mind set” to play hard and effective ice hockey for 60 minutes. We open ourselves up and offer very easy situations for the opponents to score in. Then we have some good moments in every game, but it’s not enough in this league. We must be able to compete at a higher level over 60 minutes, says Rönnberg.
After five rounds, the team is in ninth place in the table. A small miscalculation for big, strong Frölunda. Roger Rönnberg has an idea on how to reverse this negative spiral that they are in at the moment. On Thursday, Modo is waiting for Bortais.

– Number one is to work with values in Frölunda. Our identity is to compete and we are very clear about that. Then I want to be concrete and I will show examples tomorrow, then it is up to the team to react.
Roger Rönnberg’s reaction
The loss against Örebro is the bottom of the season so far. It wasn’t immediately any player who excelled and many have to get on their feet now. When GP asks Rönnberg if the players simply don’t understand how he wants them to behave and play down on the ice, he is surprised.
The local newspaper asks if there is a possibility that it was not clear during the pre-season exactly how the coach wants the team to play.
– I don’t think so, it’s crystal clear how we want to play. If you don’t understand that, you’re not professional, he says.
