Roger Haddad (L) should make Swedish course compulsory for new arrivals: “Attendance is linked to compensation”

The background to the assignment is that the government wants to improve integration policy.

– We have problems today with anti-Semitism, extremism, honor-related violence and oppression and many foreign-born women who are long-term unemployed. It is extremely important that society provides an accurate picture of laws and regulations so that you can make your own decisions and make the career and life choices you want, says Roger Haddad (L).

According to the investigator, the training is not available in all municipalities today and in some places the teacher skips aspects such as gender equality.

– It is part of my mission to regulate and control this and make sure that it ends up in the komvux system.

Want more focus on gender equality

The government has expressed a desire for an even greater focus on gender equality and for more people to attend the training.

– Irrespective of whether I am an asylum seeker, a relative immigrant or a love immigrant, it is good to get social orientation, which deals with democracy, equality and values.

You say that a final exam will be introduced which, together with attendance, will be linked to compensation – is it right to put hard against hard?

– This is not a compulsion, the course is only compulsory for those who have some type of income from society, such as the Social Insurance Agency, and then you can say that we are happy to join and support and provide for you, but we want you to learn the Swedish language and get this basic social information, I think that is a reasonable requirement.

In the video, we ask one of the participants in Västerås what she thinks about the course in social orientation and that the government wants to make it compulsory.
