There are now reports of Russian rocket attacks in the northern part of Kyiv during the morning. Loud explosions are said to have been heard, and infrastructure has been shelled, writes the local governor on Twitter.
At the same time, Russian forces are said to have taken control of Ukraine’s second largest power plant, the Vuhlehirsk coal-fired power plant in Donetsk.
According to Ukraine, it is the first time in weeks that Russian forces have gained new ground in the region.
