In a New York Times interview last week, he spoke several times about the finite nature of his professional career. “I can don’t believe that [meine Karriere] still running“, he explains. “I never thought I’d still be doing this now when I got my first job.”
Of course, that doesn’t have to mean that Pattinson wants to end his career any time soon. However, he does mention one point in time: Since the Batman series takes so long to produce (Batman 2 is expected to be released in October 2026), the grand finale may coincide with his retirement: “I could finally retire, when the film series ends” said the star.
For now, this may just be a frustrated comment about the problems of Batman 2, whose launch was delayed by, among other things, the Hollywood double strike. According to the motto: When the series ends, possibly with Batman 5 in 2056, Pattinson is of retirement age.
But perhaps there is more to his words. The actor’s statements demonstrate a distance from colleagues who never seem to consider the fleeting nature of their own success. Pattinson is aware of this, either out of modesty or because the end of his career is already on his mind.
However, judging by his upcoming projects, there is no end in sight. And should it come at some point, there will be no tragedy: whoever leaves with Batman will leave with the best.
