Last season was a great success for Skellefteå AIK under the leadership of the head coach Robert Ohlsson. When you went all the way and won a very fair SM gold.

However, this year’s start to the season was not what was hoped for and after a series of bad results, the pressure on Ohlsson increased. In the end it broke completely when the SHL coach reacted strongly in an interview with Sveriges Radio.

The move was not well received by either the supporters or the club management who acted immediately. Robert Ohlsson had to leave his coaching position immediately at the beginning of last week.

Since then, it has been quiet around the reigning gold coach, but now Ohlsson is coming forward to tell his version of what happened.
– I did an interview with Sweden’s radio on Tuesday after training. I got off training at a quarter past eleven and was going to run the phase after. I know that I was irritated and I was up in arms, says Ohlsson when he visits the TV4 studio on Thursday evening.
– Then a radio guy got hold of me and said that the supporters demanded my resignation. It became a classic in a negative sense and I wanted to say that I don’t care about the opinions of the supporters. It was a bad interview.

The fired coach apologizes for his controversial statement on the radio.
– I feel that that interview was an own goal from me. That’s why I have to stand here today and be sad, he says on the TV channel.
– I have to apologize to the supporters.
It is already clear that Robert Ohlsson will take over Frölunda from next season. But it has not affected his actions.
– I agreed with my new employer a year ago, in November. It’s been quite a while. I was not influenced in that season to win gold. I don’t know what had been influenced in my world to win gold this season, he admits in the hockey studio.
– I think that people, after talking during the summer about me doing my last season in Skellefteå, thought about whether I have heart and soul in this. But I have experienced that I had.
