In the film’s plot, the Marvel star plays petty criminal Harry, who goes into hiding disguised as an actor after a robbery gone wrong in a crime film casting group. Here he is so convincing that he is cast as a detective. In order to gain real experience, he should accompany the private detective Perry (Val Kilmer) in everyday life. But he has no desire for the involuntary new partner.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang lives from the entertaining Shane Black dialogues. The screenwriter and director also juggles typical genre elements in his directorial debut to parody hallmarks of film noir. In addition to the mix of action and comedy, the strip is also inspired by the funny buddy cop chemistry worn between Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer.
The lead actor and director had such a good time on set that Black was later hired to direct the MCU sequel Iron Man 3 as well as Marvel.
