Five years after Avengers: Endgame, he has now returned with a bang. Robert Downey Jr. becomes supervillain Victor von Doom in Avengers 5 and 6. At Comic-Con in San Diego last night, Downey Jr. took the stage to announce the return.

Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. will switch from the hero role to the villain camp, but he won’t be playing just any baddie. Victor von Doom is one of the most famous Marvel villainsn and is particularly associated with the Fantastic 4 (more on that later). It is not yet known what the new Avengers team will consist of in the films.
In any case, the MCU has found the new villain for the multiverse saga. Avengers 5 was originally called The Kang Dynasty, but after Jonathan Majors was convicted, Marvel fired the Kang actor. Now Doctor Doom will be the main villain of Marvel’s future.
Robert Downey Jr. could be seen as Doctor Doom next year
Tony Stark actor of all people Robert Downey Jr. will be the new Thanoswhich raises the question of whether he will make cameo appearances in other films before his Avengers return. An obvious choice would be The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will be released in July 2025. The film marks the start of Phase 6 and stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
