In the first three months of the year, the trend already analyzed in 2021 continued. , which sees a decrease in smaller companies, especially single-vehicle ones, and an increase in more structured companies, in particular those between 50 and 100 vehicles and even larger ones.

They are also registered in the Register 18,171 companies without vehicles on which the Central Committee has initiated assessment procedures. In particular, at the end of 2021 a check was started on 21,598 companies with zero vehicles and up to now checks have been started on 16,925 companies, finding a significant number of bankrupt or liquidated businesses (4,701). During the conference, the latest initiative from the Register in collaboration with Radio24 was presented: “Ottoruote: the history of Italian road transport”, Six podcasts to tell the fundamental stages of the evolution of the sector, from the economic boom, to the birth of the Register of Haulers up to the advent of new technologies. The podcasts are already available on the Radio24 website, on the Radio24 App and on the main platforms. The initiatives that the Register is carrying out on the subject of safety and of trainingstarting with the “Let’s drive safely” campaign aimed at 1,800 drivers.

The Director of Traffic Police Services also spoke at the conference, Paolo Maria Pomponio, who underlined that road hauliers are involved in road accidents to a far lesser extent than other categories of road users: out of the total number of accidents detected in the motorway sector, only 17%, both in 2020 and 2021, involved heavy vehicles. The conference also hosted the interventions of the representatives of the associations of companies in the sector, who highlighted how it is still necessary to intervene on the front of incentives, legislation and regulations to speed up the ecological transition.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility Enrico Giovannini stressed the need for constant dialogue with road transport trade associations, both to identify the necessary actions to increase the safety of the sector and to evaluate, together with other organizations, how to best use the inserted sustainable mobility fund in the Budget Law 2022. “I thank the Register of road hauliers for sharing the distribution of the 500 million euro fund allocated to the sector, favoring Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles and rewarding those who are committed to the ecological transition of the sector – Giovannini underlined – In the coming months we will also decide how to commit the Fund for sustainable mobility. We must make an effort towards integrated mobility, intervening both with new funds and reforms, and on intangible infrastructures. I am referring, for example, to the problem of empty trips. Together with the associations we must understand how to accelerate the optimization process, and therefore the decarbonisation, of the Italian transport system ”.
