According to the Swedish Transport Administration, major repairs are expected after the heavy landslide on the E6 at Stenungssund.
According to Christian Öhrling, state geologist Sweden’s geological surveyexplosion nearby may be the cause of the accident.
– It seems reasonable to guess that it has something to do with it, he says.
Extensive and time-consuming work awaits after the landslide that hit road E6 at Stenungssund during the night of Saturday. But several warning signs were already there before the accident.
The place has been identified as a risk area for mudslides by, among other things, MSB, the Swedish Agency for Community Protection and Preparedness, and in recent times a lot of rain has fallen. Even so, the stretch of road has not been sufficiently secured.
– It doesn’t always turn out the way we planned or that we have such a great chance to do something before it hits. It’s something we have to follow now and see if we can work in some other way, says Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.
Large area affected
An explosion had been carried out at a workplace nearby. According to Christian Öhrling, state geologist at Sweden’s Geological Survey, it is likely that this is the reason behind the slide.
– They have moved a lot, put up a lot of excavated material. It seems reasonable to guess that it has to do with it in some way.
The landslide will have a major impact on traffic for a long time to come. In total, the landslide affected an area of around 700 by 200 metres. Several vehicles were swallowed up in connection with the landslide and three people were slightly injured.
