A committed composer at the crossroads of genres, Olivier Calmel has just concocted an album where jazz fuses with classical music and cinematographic culture, where John Williams rubs shoulders with Dr Jekyll and Mister Hyde. Four works written for four different formations inspired by both fantastic literature and traditional music from North Africa brought together in his latest album Rites. Meeting with the composer before the concert of the release of his album this evening, in Paris.
The Scrapbook Rites by Olivier Calmel is out this Friday, April 22 on Klarthé Records. The Phantasmagorical Rhapsody on Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde is premiering this evening at the Salle Colonne in Paris where a fundraiser is organized for the benefit of Ukrainian composers.
