Risk of chaos this summer

It could be chaotic in European air traffic this summer as well – with the risk of strikes at several airports. This is what Norwegian’s communications manager Charlotte Holmbergh warns of.
– We are worried that there may be problems in Europe this summer, she says.

In the summer of 2022, it was an acute staff shortage in the European aviation industry that was behind the flight chaos. Ahead of this year’s high season, new threats are rising.

– This is because there is a lack of air traffic controllers in Kastrup, which has caused delays and canceled flights. In addition, air traffic controllers in France strike regularly, which can also result in similar confusion, says Charlotte Holmbergh.

“Can cause huge delays”

The airline now hopes that things will clear up by the summer, but is worried that there could be a repeat of the flight chaos in the summer of 2022.

– We hope that it will go well, but there is some concern that there will be disturbances in traffic. It is very sad for the travelers, she says.

Although strikes and staff shortages among air traffic controllers mainly affected two airports, the consequences could spread over large parts of the continent.

– These are very large airports that can cause enormous delays. It affects all companies that fly to and from Denmark and all companies that fly around French airspace, she says and concludes:

– This in turn means that everyone around is affected, after which they experience consequential delays.
