Sun, heat and makeup don’t (necessarily) go well together. While some choose to forgo this step in their beauty routine, others persist and sign on at the risk of seeing their makeup run and their skin shine. However, there are simple steps you can take on a daily basis to achieve a glamorous and long-lasting beauty look. Here are three examples of proof.
The heat wave currently engulfing southern Europe is not expected to last, but temperatures should nevertheless rise gradually in the coming days to settle in for a long time until the start of the school year. Period during which it is important to carefully follow health recommendations (stay cool, drink water, avoid alcohol and physical exertion), and to adopt new daily routines. Among the latter, the beauty routine, to be completely revisited to adapt to the new season.
Care, a key step
If facial care is essential all year round, they should not be neglected during a heatwave. This is the most important step in a beauty routine, since perfectly cleansed and nourished skin will be more likely to receive its daily dose of makeup, and allow it to last for several hours despite the stifling heat. The beauty routine must begin with proper cleansing, carried out with a soap adapted to your skin type, then continue with the application of a serum or cream with a light texture to even out the complexion and limit enlarged pores.
When it’s hot, don’t hesitate to put your treatments in the refrigerator to increase their benefits and enjoy a moment of pleasant freshness. A phenomenon that has gone viral on social networks, cryotherapy has a host of followers, and just as many treatments inspired by this cold therapy are gradually arriving in our bathrooms. A simple ice cube, effective for tightening pores and fighting certain signs of aging, should be enough to refresh you at the start and end of the day.
Fluid and light textures
Just like on vacation by the sea, you lighten your makeup routine during periods of high heat to let the skin breathe, and avoid the extreme sticky and shiny effect. If ‘no make-up’ is becoming more and more popular around the world, there are still many people who have not embraced this 100% natural routine to go to work. In this case, it is better to first turn to waterproof beauty products – eyeliner and mascara – so as not to end up with panda eyes before even having set foot in the open space. A golden rule not to be neglected to enjoy long-lasting beauty in all circumstances.
For the complexion, it is better to opt for light textures, such as BB and CC creams which will also provide a host of benefits, and to perfect it all with a touch of mattifying sun powder for a tanned complexion without shine. During periods of high heat, the primer – or foundation base – is also essential since it allows to hide all kinds of imperfections while helping to set the foundation and other concealers for a better hold. As for the lips, a simple gloss or a moisturizing balm seem essential during the day, while a matte and long-lasting lipstick will be suitable for the evening.
The extra thing
This roadmap will save you from a lot of disappointments, but it doesn’t guarantee a sunny day without any smudges. To put all the chances on your side, it’s better to have a few essentials on hand to freshen up your beauty routine between meetings or appointments. Among the essentials to slip into your handbag are mists, fixatives, and other mattifying sheets that will allow you to maintain a radiant complexion, without any shine, all day long.
In case you don’t have any of these products, don’t hesitate to dab a tissue on the shiniest areas of your face (forehead, nose, cheekbones, chin) to absorb excess sebum, then apply a mattifying powder. These two steps should allow you to face the heatwave without (too much) drooling.
