“Unqualifiable”, “a course crossed”, “a symbol of the Republic” targeted: the messages of support from political leaders to the mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses (Val-de-Marne) and his family have multiplied, this Sunday, July 2, after the attack on his home in the car-ram in the night. The wife of Mayor Vincent Jeanbrun (LR) and one of his two young children were injured. An investigation for attempted murder has been opened by the Créteil prosecutor’s office, the judicial police are seized.
The mayor of this district capital denounced in a press release published on Twitter “an assassination attempt of unspeakable cowardice”. Around 1:30 a.m., when he was at City Hall “as for three nights” to deal with urban violence, rioters “launched a ram car at (his) home before putting the fire to set fire to (his) house,” he said. “All of this was skillfully orchestrated, without consideration for the lives inside the house,” according to the mayor’s entourage.
“Last night, a milestone was crossed in horror and ignominy,” said the elected official of this city of more than 30,000 inhabitants. “While my priority today is to take care of my family, my determination to protect and serve the Republic is greater than ever,” he continued.
On Twitter, the boss of the Republicans Eric Ciotti condemned “acts of extreme gravity which must lead their authors to the assize court”. “The cowardice and ignominy of such an attack will not make him back down. Honor to his courage”, launched the president of Ile-de-France, Valérie Pécresse. “All the caps are crossed one by one. In a generalized collapse”, added the deputy LR Aurélien Pradié on the same social network, addressing to the mayor his “unwavering support”.

On the far right, RN spokesman Laurent Jacobelli was indignant on France info of this attack on “a symbol of the Republic”, “a guarantor of the Republic”, pointing to the action of “savage hordes who want to harm France”. For the president of Reconquest Éric Zemmour, “a milestone has yet been crossed” and “these savages dared to touch his family, because he has the only fault of being mayor and therefore of representing France”.
In the presidential majority too, messages of support have poured in. “Congratulations for your courage and your determination to serve our fellow citizens! Let’s not let any violence, verbal or physical pass,” wrote the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire (ex-LR) to him. “Attacking a mayor is attacking all of us, all citizens. The whole national community must say stop”, pleaded the Minister Delegate for the City, Olivier Klein.
Also on the left, Marine Tondelier, number one of EELV, assured that “ecologists give their fullest support to Vincent Jeanbrun”. “What he went through is unspeakable,” she tweeted.
The night from Saturday to Sunday was marked in France by new riots following the death of Nahel, killed by a policeman in Nanterre during a traffic check, but the authorities noted a decrease in violence, a few hours after the funeral of the young man on Saturday.
