Riksdag member Elsa Widding is leaving the Sweden Democrats.
She states that herself in a long video.
– As a politician, you are expected to keep quiet about the most important issues, she says.
Elsa Widding was elected to the Riksdag last year and has since received strong criticism for, among other things, having participated in a conference together with known vaccine opponents, climate deniers and people who relativized the Holocaust.
Education Minister Mats Persson (L) then directed harsh criticism at Elsa Widding.
On Monday, she announced that she was leaving the Sweden Democrats. In a long video, she talks about, among other things, that she chose politics to be involved in and influence climate and environmental issues.
– Instead, politicians are expected to keep quiet about the most important and life-determining issues, she says.
Going politically wild
Elsa Widding says that she has been subjected to a smear campaign from leading representatives from the Liberals and that SD has not chosen to comment on the issue in the media. She will remain in the Riksdag as a political savage.
– On the other hand, I feel that I have strong support from the voters, and not least from those who personally crossed me, she says in the video.
