Rietje talks about the people in hiding in her birthplace

Utrecht – “In a short time in 1942, when the Jewish people were picked up and were no longer safe, my father took them and brought them to houses where no Jewish people lived. Because it was very dangerous, my father and mother eventually asked to do so. But since 1942 we have had eight people in hiding.” This is the story of the almost 83-year-old Rietje de Haan-Kooistra from Utrecht, who looks back on the Second World War. The house where she was born, Spaarnestraat 61 in the Utrecht River District, is included in the Open Jewish Houses.
