Sandals are back in. At least that’s what director Ridley Scott (Napoleon) must have thought of when he thought about Gladiator 2. The sequel to the historical action Gladiator is now being worked hard again. And Scott takes the time to fill the gaping gap between the two films for fans.
“Was in the Wild”: What happened to the Gladiator 2 hero after Part 1?
The hero of the second part is the now grown-up Lucius (Paul Mescal), who watched the brutal gladiator fights in the previous film as a small boy (Spencer Treat Clark). After the death of the warrior Maximus (Russell Crowe) in the finale of the first Gladiator part the child was obviously facing hard times, as Scott reveals in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes.

In Part 1 he was about 12, Gladiator 2 takes place about 12, 15 years later. [Lucius] was in the wilderness and lost contact with his mother. And her to him. She doesn’t know where he is and thinks he might be dead.
What exactly does he mean by “wilderness” means, Scott doesn’t reveal. Lucius is the son of Maximus’ ex-lover Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and the grandson of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris), who died at the hands of Lucilla’s brother Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Nielsen will slip into her old role again for Gladiator 2. There is no further information about the story of the sequel yet.
When will Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 be released in cinemas?
Gladiator 2 is due on November 21, 2024 come to the cinema, filming is expected to start again shortly after the Hollywood strike ends (via Deadline). In addition to Mescal and Nielsen, Part 1 veteran Djimon Hounsou (Rebel Moon) will appear in front of the camera once again. Equalizer star Denzel Washington is also part of the cast.
