Rickard Rakell two-goal shooter when Erik Karlsson decided for the Pittsburgh Penguins last night

It was a Swedish scoring party in the night’s NHL.
Rickard Rakell scored two goals and Erik Karlsson scored in overtime when Pittsburgh defeated Vancouver 4–3.

Pittsburgh’s star quarterback Erik Karlsson clinched the away game against Vancouver 1.42 into overtime when he sent in a goalie rebound.

Otherwise, it was Vancouver who was in the driver’s seat the whole game. Hill Nils Höglander gave the home team the lead just over ten minutes into the first period and before it was over the lead was up to 2-0.

In the second period, the forward responded Richard Rakell for two straight goals until 2–2, but Elias Pettersson played shortly thereafter JT Miller to Vancouver’s 3–2 goal.

Raymond 17 goals

In the end, however, Pittsburgh would win after the Dane Lars Eller took the match to extra time where Karlsson scored the 4–3 goal. Several Swedes scored points in the night’s matches.

Swedish Lucas Raymond had a goal and two assists as Detroit cruised past Washington 8–3. Raymond made it 2–0 at the end of the first period, his 17th goal of the season.

Also Gustav Nyquist had a goal and two assists as his Nashville defeated Ottawa 4–1. It was Nashville’s sixth straight win.

Another Swede who distinguished himself was William Karlsson who contributed to Vegas’ 6–2 win over Toronto with a goal and an assist. He has thus extended his point streak to five games, with a total of seven points, of which four goals and three assists.

Calgary’s Mikael Backlund picked up a point after scoring in an open box against Los Angeles. The meeting ended 4–2 to Calgary, whose Swedish goalkeeper Jacob Markström was noted for one assist, in addition to 21 saves.

Minnesota’s Jonas Brodin also scored, but opponent Carolina won 3–2.

Jesper Bratt equalized for New Jersey early in the second period against San Jose – it was the start of a goal celebration for the away team. New Jersey answered for a total of seven straight goals in a 7-2 victory.
