How the shooter Rickard Andersson moved inside the Campus Risbergska during the school shooting has started clear for the police.

Among other things, it is suspected that he tried to start the fire alarm to get people to run out.

– Many people started running and others were housed. It will be chaos, says Deputy Regional Police Chief Niclas Hallgren.

They became victims in the mass shooting

A week has passed since the worst mass murder in modern Swedish history.

Ten people were killed. Including seven women and three men.

On Tuesday evening, regional police chief Niclas Hallgren states in an interview with Aftonbladet that more and more began to clear around the course of events – and around the perpetrator Rickard Andersson, 35.

– We have started to map how the perpetrator acted inside the school. We can see how he moved and how he fired shots, says Hallgren.

The theory: Thrown smoke grenades – the fire alarm went

Over 50 shots were fired during the school shooting, police say on Tuesday.

– We have now got a picture of where people were hit by shots in the school building. This indicates that the perpetrator has chosen victims randomly. We have not found any common denominator between the victims and the perpetrator.

Hallgren states that chaos broke out when smoke grenades caused the fire alarm to go.

– The only reasonable thing is that the perpetrator tried to make it difficult or impair the visibility or to perhaps start the fire alarm. We had over 400 people at school and the smoke development caused the fire alarm to go. Many are running out and others are housed. There will be chaos.

Shot in several different spaces

Hallgren does not want to comment on where the shots were fired in the building.

– We are quite far into the survey, but since it is on an ongoing preliminary investigation, it is information that I do not want to go out with. What I can say is that it is not a space.

He continues:

– The perpetrator has moved inside the building and people have been hit by shots in a variety of spaces.

How long was the school shooting going on?

– I dare not go out with any time indication. We do not want to go out with incorrect information so I am holding that information now. But it starts clear for us. Among other things, we use films and radio traffic to develop such figures.

Rickard Andersson was found dead in the school building by police – about an hour after the first alarm.

– For a long time, the search for additional perpetrators was going on. During that time we have used quite a few distraction grenades. It is a grenade that gives off high bangs. And it is perfectly reasonable if it has been perceived by people outside and people inside the school as being still pushed. But we had to use grenades because we work safely.

Bought ammunition before the deed

The police investigation has also led to the police getting a picture about who the perpetrator, Rickard Andersson, was.

– We have started to get a more complete picture. He has previously been enrolled in this school. We investigate the extent to which he was previously in the school premises. We also know that he did not have a large social contact network, says Hallgren.

According to the police, Rickard Andersson has lived in an apartment since 2016.

He was a student at Risbergska for two periods. Once in 2013 and once again in the years 2019 to 2021.

– The perpetrator made some purchases before the act in the near future. Among other things, ammunition and smoke grenades.

Police: Not sure we find the subject

Those who were murdered in the school shooting were teachers and students at Risbergska, police say.

But the motive behind the school shooting is still not clear. According to Niclas Hallgren, the police are not even sure that they will be able to map a motive.

– Since the perpetrator is dead, there is no one to interrogate. We are not sure that we will find a clear motive. Based on both Swedish and international experience, it is difficult to find a motive if the perpetrator has not left clear indications for a motive.

However, the police exclude nothing – and have taken the help of Europol to map the shooter’s life on the internet.

– We really want to know if there is any other person who was involved or knew about what was going to happen. We dig very deeply for digital tracks.
