“THE MOST DANGEROUS OF ACTIVE FIRE”
In the news reflected in the Greek media, it was stated that some hotels, villages and beaches were evacuated after the fire started to increase its effect.
Greek Fire Brigade Spokesperson Yannis Artopios said that approximately 2,000 people, including tourists, were evacuated by sea.
Stating that three coast guard ships, an army lifeboat and 30 private boats participated in the evacuation operation, Artopios stated that those evacuated will be accommodated in cruise ships, schools and gyms.
Artopios shared the information that support teams will reach Ada early in the morning.
On the other hand, pointing out that the fire in Rhodes is “the most dangerous of all active fires in Greece”, the authorities said that more than 200 firefighters, 40 vehicles, 3 planes and 5 helicopters participated in the extinguishing efforts.
THE TEMPERATURE WILL BE 45 DEGREES!
Authorities warned that “the risk of fire is high” in the country, where the air temperature will reach 45 degrees in some regions today.
HELP TO GREECE IN TURKEY
Fire-fighting planes and helicopters have been sent to Greece so far from Turkey, Israel, Jordan, Italy and France.
With the instruction of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, 2 amphibious firefighting aircraft and 1 firefighting helicopter belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry arrived in Athens yesterday morning with a flight crew of 9 people. (AA)
