Reveals the chaos just the day before the World Cup – Johannes Lukas was forced to act: “It boiled in him”

The Biathlon World Cup is finally here.
But the upload for the Swedish camp has not been optimal.
Johannes Lukas was therefore forced to take matters into his own hands.

If you hadn’t known that it would be the Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, it would have been a bit difficult to understand. The world’s best in sports are there, but it’s not the snow. Instead, it’s temperatures of around ten degrees, bare ground – and no snow at all, apart from the planned race track.

Chaos before the WC

But on Monday, the stadium was forced to remain closed due to a heavy downpour, and hard work was required to maintain the snow that actually exists. And for those who had hoped for a lighter workout to keep the body going, there was disappointment. And the high temperature forced Sweden’s national team coach Johannes Lukas to act.

Johannes Lukas understood early on that it would be difficult to have a training session in the stadium, but it was also not possible for everyone to just go out for a little light training.

– We have some active people who cannot run or cycle due to some minor defect. So then I had to get hold of roller skis. I found a rental place and got to borrow a pair. It went quite smoothly, he says to Norwegian TV2.

“Sounds like it boiled a bit…”

But maybe it wasn’t quite that simple after all. Elvira Öberg, who competes in Wednesday’s WC premiere, the mixed relay, says that Lukas was stressed.

– It sounded like it was boiling a bit for him, when he was going to get hold of the skis. But I’m glad he made it. It’s not the same as normal skiing, but it’s better than running or cycling, says Öberg.

She gets the support of Hanna Öberg, who last week posted a picture on Instagram where she was roller-skiing. As a text, she wrote: “Welcome to the Czech Republic, better boating conditions than Östersund in May”.

– I have problems with my knee, which means that I cannot run or cycle, so for me it was very good. The best solution by far, says Hanna Öberg, and continues:

– But it doesn’t really give the WC feeling to go on roller skis a day before the WC.
