Musk, as CEO of the space company Space X, has billions of dollars worth of contracts with both the Pentagon and US intelligence.
Two Democratic senators are calling for an investigation into allegations that the billionaire Elon Musk has been in regular contact with Russia. This is reported by the Reuters news agency, which has seen the senators’ letter to the US Attorney General.
Musk, as CEO of the space company Space X, has billions of dollars worth of contracts with both the Pentagon and US intelligence.
Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Jack Reed says the Minister of Justice in his letter To Merrick Garland and to the Pentagon that Musk’s involvement in programs agreed between Space X and the US administration should be reviewed.
Musk says he has access to classified information at Space X, which has several launch contracts with the Pentagon and the US space agency NASA. According to Reuters, the company also has an almost two billion dollar contract with the US intelligence to build a satellite network.
The US newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported at the end of October that Musk has been in regular contact with Russia and the president to Vladimir Putin until the end of 2022.
According to Shaheen and Reed, Musk’s access to classified information could endanger the security of the United States.
Several Democratic politicians have publicly demanded an investigation into Musk’s connections to Moscow. In the past, however, there has not been a letter directly to the authorities that could initiate such an investigation.
Musk helped become president Donald Trump’s election campaign with more than 119 million dollars. Last week, Trump nominated Musk for a position in his future administration.
Space X, the Musk Pentagon and the Justice Department did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
The Kremlin has denied that Musk was in contact with Russia.
